The COVID-19 crisis has placed the leaders of Southeast Wisconsin at a crossroads of balancing short-term challenges with long-term uncertainties and opportunities. Join us virtually to discuss strategies around talent, innovation, business development and community as we continue to strengthen our regional economy.

8:15 AM - 9:15 AM - KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Vice President & Director of Brookings, Metropolitan Policy Program Amy Liu is a national expert on cities and metropolitan areas. She will translate research and data into actions, including: comparing Milwaukee to its peer metros using the Brookings Metro Recovery Index; COVID-19’s impacts (near and long term) toward equitable growth; and what leaders can do to double-down on equitable recovery through suggested strategies and best practices.

 

She will be followed by Lafayette Crump, Commissioner of the Milwaukee Department of City Development, discussing his priorities to increase prosperity and racial equity in Milwaukee’s future development activity.

 

9:15 AM - 10:00 AM - TALENT TRENDS

Rebekah Kowalski - VP, Manpower Manufacturing at ManpowerGroup will discuss labor market trends that have been interrupted or accelerated due to COVID-19, the economic downturn, and continued technological disruption. She'll touch on recalibrated job growth forecasts in the M7 region and where expectations have changed.
 

  • Key skills in demand to fill growing roles
  • Opportunities to reskill & redeploy workers dislocated during the pandemic
  • The downstream impacts of the shifts/disruptions for education and workforce development systems
  • How talent developers can adapt to support regional employers and the workforce

Followed by panel of talent developers discussing priorities and strategies in response to the new labor trends.
