Why You Need A Supplier Diversity Program:

An Introduction to Inclusive Procurement as a Change-Making Diversity Strategy

In the 1960s, a small group of socially conscious companies began addressing racial inequity through the creation of Supplier Diversity Programs, an inclusive approach to procurement and company spending. With systematic racism and economic inequality top of mind for American employers, Supplier Diversity is more important today than ever. But too few companies employ these programs, and far too often existing programs remain token gestures rather than powerful diversity strategies.

What is supplier diversity?

A diverse supplier is a business that is at least 51% owned and operated by an individual or group that is part of a traditionally underrepresented or underserved group. Aside from moral and ethical arguments, there are sound commercial reasons for creating supplier diversity programs.
