Privilege for Sale: Understanding How Privilege and Oppression Affect You & Others

The concept of privilege is becoming increasingly referenced as a workplace inclusion topic, but many of us still don’t fully understand what it is and how it affects our daily lives.  This interactive workshop guides participants in understanding privilege and oppression as concepts. Attendees will recognize the ways their own privileges benefit them and get a sense of the disadvantages they face due to privilege(s) they do not hold.

 

Because privilege is normalized, ideas around it can often be difficult or uncomfortable to explore.  But this workshop will help attendees have a greater understanding of privilege and why inclusive leadership requires awareness on the topic.

 

Attend this workshop to:

- Understand the impact of privilege and how the absence of privilege can be experienced as oppression

- Gain a better grasp of the range of privileges and who typically has which ones and why

- Recognize and reflect on your own privileges and/or oppression and gain greater empathy and understanding for people who experience the same or different challenges

- Explore the impact of privilege on workplaces and daily life and understand how people can support one another as allies
